You don’t look that grumpy but rather stern Russell. Always enjoy seeing your portraits which amaze me with their insightfulness and sensitivity. We all go through phases of wondering what to paint, so I hope you get your mojo back soon, as your work is very much missed.

Super work Russel. I think we do look stern in a self portrait because we are intensely looking in the mirror, back and forth, at the planes of the face, trying to capture one's own image.

I love your portraits Russel and this one has turned out superb! You look stern rather than grumpy, and maybe since attempting a selfie you will be inspired to return to some curious and interesting portraits again.

Back again… to get you out of a lean spell, what about continuing with oils using the Zorn palette? A challenge in itself, but a good one that will make you have to think hard…

Thank you all for your comments, very generous I think! I have tried the Zorn palette once before Alan so perhaps it is time to give it another go.

Self portraits rarely look relaxed I think Russell, but this is really good. The grumpy look is just concentration (hopefully!).
