The Treecreeper was mainly painted with watercolour and watercolour pencils. The dead tree was also pained in watercolour with the addition of fine pen work to depic the cracks in the exposed wood areas. White gouache was used for the Treecreeper's white plumage. Most of my recent paintings of birds have been inspired by wildlife artist Basil Ede. I had painted mainly in pastel and reserved watercolour for landscape painting. When I discovered Basil Ede's work and what he achieved with watercolour, for me there was no turning back. It is amazing what little treasures one can find by browsing around a second hand book shop and Basil Ede's book is such a treasure.
