If this is one of your first watercolours Christopher, it's a very commendable effort, my early pictures were much worse. You obviously can draw well which is a great help. I'm afraid the only way to improve in watercolour is, as my old teacher said to me 'it's a matter of man hours'! The only tip that comes to mind is to strengthen your washes, unlike oils, watercolour dries quite a bit lighter than it appears when you apply the paint. This would give more life and depth to this picture. There are quite a few good watercolorists on the site to study, best of luck.

Hi Stephen, Thank you for your comment, and yes I could strengthen the washes but I thought that it might perhaps lead to an error or two, fear perhaps of loosing this picture, I have already started on another, as yet drawn awaiting paint. So I think I might try on this second attempt by using stronger washes.. I am much enamoured with Turner and would very much like to be as like him as possible. as many people would. Only problem is I am a very late starter. Thank you for your kindness Best regards, Christopher.

Thanks for your very kind comments on my portfolio, Chris. I am gobsmacked when I look at the range of topics in your portfolio! Look forward to seeing more of your watercolours.

Thank you Ann, I should say however that this is my second watercolour of my own composition, I have copied a watercolour from the Ewa Karpinska wet in wet watercolour book and a copy of a venice scene from an earlier Artist magazine, those were difficult but worth doing, my first watercolour is on the site, the poppies which I tried as a free exercise. Again I think that your works are so good and likewise I will be on the lookout for you. Regards Chris

This is the first of, I plan, a series of local scene's. An early forray into watercolour that I hope will work towards my starting to produce some work again also get me into working with watercolour, something I have long wished to do. If anybody has any comments I would welcome them as my experience is so limited.
