“Gerlos” Tirol, Austria 38x56cm on Arches rough 300gThe Schwarzachtal near Gerlos is one of my favorite places, especially in winter time when it is abandon and quiet. To paint snow is always a challenge.I used the group of wooden barns in the upper section of my painting as my focal point. The warm colours of the huts are in contrast with the cool shady slope in the far background. As a “lead in” I took a winding path, which was covered with new snow. I tried to paint the snow with just view brush strokes. It is very easy to overwork a winter scene, therefore I stopped painting right after putting in some small details like the fence.
