Ortler (3905m), Südtirol, Italy
Ortler (3905m), Südtirol, Italy. Watercolor on Saunders Waterford 640g, rough. Nearly all of the summit is covered by a massive glacier. I was attracted by the fantastic structures made of ice. Until exactly 100 years ago (till 1919) the Ortler was the highest mountain of the former Austrian-Hungarian empire. During the First World War this mountain was the highest front-line. Nowadays it is a very popular summit for advanced Alpine climbers.
