The Beano (and Dandy) were firm favourites when I was a nipper, I learnt to draw by copying some of the characters. My sons liked these comics too, David Sutherland joined the Beano around that time, so I got to enjoy the artwork all over again. Nice idea to draw different characters in that style.

Ah, we bade farewell to David Sutherland OBE (1933 -2023) earlier this year. I did a small tribute to the art style of the Beano not long after Mr Sutherland died; just a few weeks after he received an OBE. David was, for many years, the artist behind the Bash Street Kids and over 1000 episodes of Dennis the Menace. He really solidified Beano's look-and-feel. I experimented with the Beano style and wondering how it might unite with Hanna-Barbera's Velma. Thank you to any who stop by here!
