Wow! Your skill level with brush and paint is outstanding. Very complex scene made simple by the clever use of pale colours and limited palette. Wonderful reflections.

Another beautiful one. You are a star !

I have to agree with Thea, this is an outstanding painting in watercolour.

Thea's right about the success of your method, and those pale colours give you (and you take full advantage of) really powerful darks that bring the whole thing together. Some of my best friends are photographers, but this picture shows the huge advantage a painting can have over even the very greatest photograph; this is as near as human hand, brush and paint can home to creating a living thing.

should have read "as near as human hand, brush and paint can COME to..." etc. Not senile: just myopic...

Thank you Robert your comments are much appreciated spelt correctly or not! b

You know your medium! Fantastic!

A lovely watercolour portofolio. I love the way you use watercolours.

A fantastic portfolio! i've loved them all and your reflections are just outstanding!

Brian thank you for your wonderful work. Could you give an indication of size and materials please? I'm feeling my way with watercolour and would appreciate the added information.

Hi Gerhard, Thank you for your kind remarks. I use 300gsm Rough Arches paper which I stretch. Paints are Winsor & Newton Artists watercolours, my palette is quite limited Burnt and raw Siennas and Umbers, French ultramarine, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue, Alazarin Crimson, Winsor Violet, New Gamboge, Windsor Lemon and ocasionally Brown Madder. I originally chose to work on rough finish paper to stop myself getting too bogged down with detail ..... as you can see it didn't have the desired result! Good luck with your painting. Regards Brian

I just want to echo all the other comments. This is an amazing gallery.

Superb portfolio

Superb paintings as always Brian. I know you admit to a penchant for detail but it's actually the way you interpret it with simplicity that makes your works so great. Wonderful compositions with stunning contrast. I've learned such a lot from your paintings - always a fan, Rob.

After seeing the previous picture I took a peep at your gallery, very impressive, like them all, water is a favourite with me so this one is superb, love it. well done you.

You sir are an amazingly talented painter. Your recording of a scene as you view it is marvelous with your handling of the various hues. Wonderful reflections and such realistic water. Love it!

I did this painting in my studio using photographs and a sketch done on the spot, This is my usual method of working.
