Thank you ladies. Some artwork comes easily and some turns out well after a fight - but I really struggled with this one. I'll come back to it at some point, and have another go in oil.

I re-visited this acrylic on canvas yesterday. All the additions were knife painted with some sgraffito to pick out the grasses in the foreground. The colours in the grass and sky are truer to my source photo and preparatory sketch, and I'm much happier with the finished result.
