Thanks very much for the encouragement, Kate. No, it's not finished yet! I'm still trying alternatives for the grassy slopes below the rock pinnacles in an effort to convey both scale and texture whilst keeping harmonious colours. I'm afraid that I'm exceedingly slow when it comes to developing ideas & working up a final painting!! I will post the end result though.

My daughter has asked me to paint something for her birthday - the only stipulation being that the subject must be on the Isle of Skye. I've decided upon the unique rock formation near Portree known as the Storr. I'm intending to try 2 versions, in watercolour and oil. This posting is the latest of several studies that I'm doing to develop the idea. A major issue is giving an impression of scale - the rocky pinnacles are huge, over 150 feet high I believe. I've tried to convey this by implying a high viewpoint, yet having the top of the pinnacles protruding well above the horizon. Any comments or suggestions on how its going will be most welcome!
