Very pleasing indeed Barry, there’s some expert water control in there I think!

Thank you Karen, I think I just about got away without cauliflowers on a couple of occasions!!!

Lovely Barry , gives a wonderful feeling of openess and vastness I like it , Jack Merriots work played a part in my learning , and I read a book many years ago by him , I like him ,you've done a great job with this one Barry.

Superb Barry watercolour is you without a doubt

Thanks Dennis, I wonder if that is Discovery Watercolour edited by Ernest Savage? It has some great advice for any watercolour artist even if the style of writing is a little old fashioned. My mate Steve Hall has recently acquired a painting titled The Storm Cloud that appears in the book and it a lesson in how to paint in watercolour.

Thank you Dennis, nice to think I have put my own stamp on it.

This is beautifully done, Barry, it has a lovely softness to it.

Very nice Barry. That soft centre is a masterful stroke.

Lovely subtle tones and great atmosphere Barry. One of the really good things about POL is that someone mentions and thus introduces another artist who some of us have never heard of, and the learning process goes on! Thank you for that!

Beautifully subtle and understated. You have developed great depth and bags of space with that open sky. I really admired the reflecting pinks. Best Brian

A lovely scene Barry, summer's on its way lol, 😀

Thanks Brian there was an element of luck I almost used a tissue and the the words of Joseph Zbukvic rang in my head “treat a mistake as a gift” and I let the watercolour paint itself, luckily it worked.

Thank you everyone for some lovely comments.

Very pleasing, Barry. Lovely muted colours.

Thank you Ellen I am pleased that you like it.

Lovely watercolour Barry, lovely sky and landscape,

Lovely paining with restrained colours!

A lovely, pleasing result Barry!

I love the freshness of this Barry. It's all too easy to lose when painting.

Many thanks to all for taking the trouble to comment.

Absolutely gorgeous painting - great style

It’s great Barry, lovely painting.

Thank you Maureen and Fiona.

I love this, Barry. Gorgeous palette and subtley used. Beautiful!

Thank you Jennifer, obviously much of the credit goes to JM but I hope injected a bit of myself in the piece.

Must have missed this one, glad I noticed it now in your gallery. I remember admiring Marrit's working in Ron Ranson's Watercolour Impressionists book. I have a little card of one of his train carriage prints, which I treasure. I think he has inspired many watercolourists over the years. You have caught his style here very well.

Thank you Stephen I came across him through Steve Hall who is a great admirer and collector of his work.

My take on a Jack Merriott landscape unfortunately it lacks a few of the subtle touches that he achieved but a pleasing result me thinks.

About the Artist
Barry Hulme

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
