It's getting the little swine into exhibitions (I refer to the elusive punters) that we find difficult: I've exhibited with a couple of groups over the last 12 months, and hardly any of us sold a thing. I like the open nature of this one - you can see between the trees, whereas so many landscapes with trees tend to be all foliage and no trunk. Just as our exhibitions were all artist and no customer....

How disappointing. I hire a gallery in the High Street in Oakham, quite good footfall. I also leaflet all the local hotels on a Friday - good captive audience do pub/restaurants on a Friday too capture the weekend lunch brigade. Never had many sales in off the beaten track places or Open Studio at home. The best purchase which resulted in sales was a card reader.... Talks to the phone but needs a good wifi and/or phone reception. It paid for itself on the first purchase and I sold 19 that exhibition...often art purchase is impulse buy....buying on a credit card means people treat themselves. I also find having a little story to tell about the painting helps. Good luck with your next exhibition....it's always worth the effort because work won't sell itself in a cupboard!

Sold this one at an exhibition. It was a classic if it speaks to you buy it. The person who bought it wandered round the gallery looking at all my paintings but kept homing in on this piece, went to lunch the cam back and bought it. It is so lovely that someone falls in love with something you have created. So glad it went to a good home. This beats any somewhat dubious assessment and rejection by an art society with very dubious practices and quite callous attitudes to fellow artists! I might have got in if I had had four like this!
