'Midnight in Venice'

Comments

I was actually very indecisive about how to paint a scene from Venice but didn't want to refer to any reference photos as the imagination wanted to express a scene, so started painting elongated strips with sienna and burnt umber then cerulean blue took my brush into the canal! Strange, I felt a European presence and heard music from a piano accordion then the gondolier and his boat came into view...oh to be in Venice this August!!

Thank you David, I am in my 'child-like' attitude today exploring colour and line as to create a scene from memory. Venice always appeals and the curious architecture and alleys, with staircases, verandahs, and window boxes spring to mind! Am exploring diminutive style for another pictorial book!

Actually I was imagining a canal in Venice so started dabbing and dubbing today...have never painted in diminutive style and fortunately happened to find a mini detail brush so as I was painting window boxes added teeny tiny petals... Might create a birthday card for my sister as I know she loved visiting Italy and Venice. It's imaginative but was a child-like painting experience...loose style as I hadn't a clue what it would turn out but did start with sienna and burnt umber then added some yellow ochre...
