'Emu eggs'

Comments

Lovely pencil sketch, Angela!!

Very delicately drawn

Why thankyou David and Heather, These Emu eggs are about the size of a grapefruit and the children think they are dinosaur eggs, although they are oval and blue with speckled white spots. The female lays them in a nest usually on the ground near rocks or bushes and the male guards them, so they are compatible in the way of protecting their brood! The only predators are dingos, foxes, or the Wedgetail Eagles and tiger snakes too. Sometimes lizards invade but the Emu can kick the smaller predators away, although it becomes quite a feat if a snake invades or an eagle... Bless these Emus as they are so gentle and self composed creatures...

Emus lay their eggs upon a nest composed of twigs, grass and dry earth. The male Emu stands guard to protect them from predators. They are dark blue with light blue spots but this is only a pencil sketch....
