Thankyou Carole and Dennis, I am very fond of looking at roof-tops and chimney's so thought I would paint this scene as I imagined how the place looked when the brick-yard was built. These three tall chimney's are features in a way, as the clay where these children foraged were formed into bricks and fired in the kilns, so the chimney stacks represent productivity!

I painted this scene for illustration and chimneys evoke wonder as they tower above the rooftops looking stealthy and grande! This is one of a set of illustrations I painted for a children's story titled "Children from the Claypits" when child labour was on the verge of being abolished and the Education Act was set in place mid 1800's.
