Orchard, Early Evening
My childhood garden revisited. In a recent Q&A blog with Cowling and Wilcox, I was asked how I got started as an artist. I replied that, as a child, I was endlessly drawing and painting the old trees in our garden. The land used to be an orchard and was full of beautiful gnarled old fruit trees. So here they are, still beautiful, captured in the early evening, with long shadows and the canopies lit by the last rays of the sunshine. Impasto acrylic on canvas board, a tiny 7 by 5 inches! 22/11/2016: Delighted to announce that this painting has been shortlisted for Artists & Illustrators' Artists of the Year 2017 exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, 23 -28 January 2017.
