An impasto artwork, acrylic on block canvas. I had recently painted a number of paintings using acrylic in a layered watercolour style on acrylic paper. They were highly detailed using small paintbrushes. For this next series - in order to do something completely different - I challenged myself to paint on a much larger scale using only palette knives and acrylics undiluted from the tube. This wave was painted from a photograph I took at our local beach. Following my previous highly realistic style, it was really liberating to scoop colour from the palette, and apply it directly to the canvas.
