This is very attractive, Allan. You must be very pleased with the result. The "greens" are very interesting with their variation in colour and texture and the road and water add a lovely flowing movement. Reading your info underneath I was surprised to see you had worked in acrylic over oils....this is usually not recommended as water based medium doesn't " bond" with the oil beneath. Oil over acrylic is obviously ok. Hope you don't mind me saying this, it's just that , in future, to avoid the possibility of paint flaking off, do it the other way around.

Thank you Marjorie. I should clarify it was a choice of acrylic instead of oils. Sorry, bad choice of wording on my part.

Absolutely beautiful - instils a sense of calm.

A beautiful painting Allan, your sister will be delighted I'm sure.

Phew! That's alright then Alan. I laughed when I read your reply,

Tranlates from Maori to say "Taranaki is my mountain, Patea is my river".I painted this as a gift for my sister has moved to the town of Patea which is sited on the river by the same name, in the province of Taranaki in New Zealand. I painted this small aerial view if the river, the nearby farming countryside, with the mountain on the horizon. I was pleased with the freedom of working this in acrylic over oils. I worked it from sky, to mountain, progressing to the foreground to achieve the layerings of intermediate horizons (the river bank) to help provide overall perspective. Along the way I had to find a way to suggest the township within the landscape but not detail it so it became dominant. I have driven this road many times and the ribbon of grey/white leads the eye from the distance, down through the town, across the bridge and up the hill to continue out if view. Possibly the painting makes most sense to those familiar with the space and the landscape....
