This painting measures 16 x 16 inches (40 x 40 cm). The idea was to show that, for all its antiquity, Venice is still very much a living and working place - indicated by the 2 boats parked outside a door. The light on the narrow waterway at the end of the shadowy one was something else I wanted to indicate about Venice: light and shade, surprise corners etc.
