I love this Alan. Great colours and strong shapes.

Like this very much Alan, it is easy to see how you like snow scenes.

Great winter landscape Alan. Makes me shiver.

Beautifully painted as always Alan, I love the 'bright white' highlights ( does that make any sense when describing a 'snow' scene? ) particularly that strip of light on the distant hills, brilliant.

Lovely light and darks, very effective 😀

Your "tracery of trees" is so well done Alan it shows your enjoyment in drawing them. It's a super snow scene as well and would make a perfect Christmas card.

More of a finished work than a sketch to my eyes Alan, works very well.

The toned paper is very effective, Alan. I like it!

And you make the most of it Alan beautiful

Magical scene Alan, love it.

This one flows beautifully Alan. It's lovely!

You are a very gifted and talented chap Al....whatever you do just works. Always understated, (which eludes me in my own stuff) well balanced and attractive. Pretty perfect!

Beautiful composition, Alan. Love the way you painted the trees.

I like this very much, Alan: the simplified masses of distant trees at varied distances and the bright light in the distance. The track, light and shadows in the foreground are a masterclass. All those patterns, textures and interest in a snow covered field!

Superb Alan - you have captured the atmosphere perfectly.

A lovely winter scene Alan, you do these so well.

Gosh, thanks everyone, your comments are always appreciated. Yes, I do love my snow scenes, more to come!

This is a painting that keeps you looking Alan, and noticing more in it, such as the complexity of the shadows and shapes in the near field which I didn’t at first take in. You have developed a very appealing, honest and identifiable style, which is surely what this business is about. My criteria for ticking the “like” box is whether I would hang it on my wall, so here’s one for this! Well done.

Lovely, Alan. Especially love those distant clumps of trees! This carries on from the lovely sketch I guess.

Just lovely, Alan. So quietly sophisticated, Really love that touch of Burnt Sienna leading the eye in and around. A well deserved top liner!

I really love this Alan.

Just noticed this - it's great - so much to look at, great colours and effect, Alan and I love your use of ink.

Beautiful. Made me shudder, Alan.

A4 mixed media on Strathmore 300gsm grey paper. Another in the series of local scenes around my area. Yes, it’s another snow scene, but I like snow scenes, and particularly the winter trees displaying their fine tracery of branches – what a delight these are to draw. Mainly Indian ink drawing with watercolour washes. I’m lucky to live in a rural area that has an abundance of interesting landscapes to offer any artist, and some of these sketches will make larger oil paintings at a later date. For the historians amongst us, Hopton Heath was the site of a famous bloody battle in 1643, in which both sides claimed victory - We'll call that a draw then!
