Watercolour painting of a famous Scottish Castle.

I like this a lot, dramatic sky

Works well, the turbulent sky contrasts well with the calm loch.

Super watercolour

Lovely watercolour.

Ooh I disagree you have succeeded in creating a beautiful painting, love the light behind the castle, and the sky is so dramatic. The colours reflected in the water add so much to the whole painting , it excellent.

I think you managed very well Diane. You got the paint moving and you succeeded with all of us recognising the scene. Nice work. One small point. Date the painting either on the back, or somewhere on the border left by the tape. This also where you can put the other information, such as materials, image size and the paper used. Only you and the framer see it! Good luck. John

You've got to have another go at this, when you feel you're ready: you're so near to complete success, with your lighting, and very Scottish colours and atmosphere - maybe wait for the paint to dry before charging back in, in one or two areas: watercolour is tricky like that; often, you want to work wet-in-wet, and need to, in order to get the best out of it; but now and then, when a sharper edge is required, you won't get it wet-in-wet. Which is one reason why I prefer oils and acrylics!

Thank you everyone for the lovely comments. I do plan to paint this again.

I attempted to recreate the painting from Artist magazine using a limited palette, didn’t succeed but enjoyed painting none the less
