I know this won't be to everyone's taste/style but wondered what you think....I'm trying to produce line and wash where the emphasis is on a main building/point-of-interest. I don't want to overpower my linework by making colours too strong, so I'm still trying to get them right, but when I try to make 'soft' or 'gentle' colour for the less emphasised parts, it sometimes feels just too pale/timid...so I wondered what everyone thinks about what I've done and whether you have an tips on getting the balance right. Thanks in advance
It looks really good to me Gerry, I like doing what I call light colours that is using quite thin paint . I find that if I keep the darks not too dark the light colours of the bricks don’t look to wish to wishy washy . I also add the odd darker bricks to emphasise the brick work. I convinced that if you get the tone of the dark right the rest seems to follow .
It's looking good, I like line and wash.  Perhaps add some brick detail and vary the tone down the clock tower.  (Although I am just a beginner)
The strong red colour and central position will automatically focus the viewers eye to the main building. It needs more tone… strengthen the shadow parts as in the tower and edge of building, they’re a little too weak and should be the same tone. Also, really strengthen that archway, this will be your focal point of the composition! Extreme caution is needed when you start adding brickwork, perhaps a hint on the edges of buildings can sometimes work.
Thank you all, this is useful feedback and I'm very grateful. I'm hoping to build confidence with tone and strength, and will take all these thoughts on board. Thank you
Nice drawing  Gerry just  missing the shadows take your time working in the shadows on the building then on the posts in the foreground and along the floor..
