I though I would share a work in progress , it of a elephant and I’m thinking of setting in in the early morning. I actually find elephants quite difficult to paint and draw but love the challenge and this one particularly as I’m doing it a lot different to how I’ve done them before. I m starting off with less drawing than usual and building it up with colours, a basic sketch with base colours added . I stare off with the light tan colour as often wild elephants have a coat of dust usually the colours of the local soils etc. I also added some of the darker areas to give it shape.
Started to add some purple to help create light shadow I laid this over the very watery Payne’s grey that I had already used . Then I darkened some of the shadow areas and started to detail around the right eye. Added some shadow and detail to the right tusk.

The depth of shadow’s working a treat Dixie, giving the fellow some beautiful form. Nice job 👍
Thanks Anth , I’ve added pressure on myself with this as I’m planning to give it to the OT who is treating my hands. She loves elephants and liked  a painting I had done some time ago , as it was the first elephant I painted I won’t let it go , I hope she likes it.
Looking good Paul.

I’m sure she’ll love it, you’re doing a great job!
Thank you Denise and Anth . It’s at this stage that I get a bit worried that it’s not going to work out how I want it , I refer to it as the  ugly stage . Added a bit more shading and started on some of the details unfortunately that’s it for today , out to a family BBQ as it’s my son in laws 50th,  I’d rather paint.
Dysfunctional fingers .

Looking good Paul, keep the faith! How annoying, having to go to a party at this stage of a painting🤣😉x
I know bloody inconsiderate if you ask  me , i could have given them a better time if I had been consulted .
Looking good Paul..  despite the BBQ ...you old misery .
It’s really looking good Paul, you OT will be delighted with it will mean so much that you have painted it especially for her.
