So on a spur of the moment thing, I popped into the local Spar after dropping off my daughter at school and got some roses. I've had a brilliant day setting up the white roses as a still life and painting. Just managed to get the main block in done before school was over. Looking forward to another day painting tomorrow - hoping that they flowers haven't changed shape too much – the leaves on the flat surface had flattened by the end of today!
Lovely work Gary.
Looking really good so far Gary. That’s the problem (also the fun) of painting live flowers, that they change day by day, so you have to get your speed brushes out! Look forward to day two.
Thank you Marjorie and Tessa. I've made slow progress today. The flowers had opened up lots so I had to rely on memory combined with what I see. Unfortunately I mainly worked on the vase and background, leaving time to develop only one of the flowers (hopefully it's obvious which one!) I may be relying on photo reference for the finish as I don't get tuime to paint on weekends.
Fantastic work!
Thank you James...it's getting there...
Day 3 - A rose has temporarily gone - it wasn't working (and I messed up painting it). I am now working from photo reference, which isn't as much fun and I have got to the stage that I want to just move on so I'm going to let it simmer for a few days and come back to it. I think the missing rose needs to be at a more dynamic angle so its not all too upright?
Gary, I think it works well with or without the extra rose! You are very good at flowers. 🌼
Fantastic work!

James or Robert!? So you are the Leeds mural man! How about showing some of your work on the Gallery here? I’m sure it would be well accepted.
Thanks Tessa 😁 and wow - A very quick reply! It's very strange - I never thought I would do floral paintings, it never was appealing, and now I can't stop and I it sounds daft but I'm looking at flowers with a new appreciation of their beauty!
Good man! Look forward to more.
Painting flowers is not as easy a people think it’s  quite difficult to get the soft delicate look . This is a book I recommend and one I’ve recently bought albeit second hand it watercolour but I’m sure it has its value in other medium .
