Gary, looking at your post  from three days ago ( I’ve been away), I had to smile….I do this all the time with Still Life, “ should this stay in etc?” And also, you become so involved with the subject matter. With me at the moment it’s shells, bottles and light!
Lovely painting Gary and I do prefer the two roses.

Thanks Marjorie, yes I am definitely procrastinating a bit too much.

Thanks Denise. I think, maybe because I have been staring at 3 roses in a vase for a week - all I see now is a too empty space in the right so I plan to put the third back in but am going to leave it a few days so I can view it fresh.
Painting flowers is not as easy a people think it’s  quite difficult to get the soft delicate look . This is a book I recommend and one I’ve recently bought albeit second hand it watercolour but I’m sure it has its value in other medium .

Thanks Paul, Looks a good book - especially to help me know the names of the flowers I'm painting! I wish I could do watercolour but it becomes a muddy mess!
No you  could do it Gary , it won’t take you long to get the hang of it. Great to use with your children as well,  my granddaughters love getting out a easel and having a go .
It is looking good Gary.

Thaks, I do have a small set that I planned to take plein air painting but I haven't really used it since I had a commission a few years ago that I struggled with and ended up asking if they minded I use acrylics instead...Luckily they were fine with that. My 5 year old daughter has some watercolour pens that she loves using as lpng as they are purple (and keeps the mess to a minimum for us) :-)
Use your set to mess about with the watercolours simple washes etc see how they bed together ad creat shapes of colour. Just before it dries drop some water on a spot and see what happens, put sone rock salt on a dab of almost dry paint and watch it take the colour out in some ares or leave a mottled effect. So many things to try c d,d gently rubbed then  paint over it. Just have fun whatever you so and don’t think of rules just try it out a see .
When I first saw your roses I thought they were painted with oils, Gary. Then I saw the book, thanks for shearing this. Both roses and glass work are excellent. Beautiful work. Also, there's nothing wrong with the addition of a decaying bloom, adds to the nature of the subject.

Thank you Carol. They are painted in oils. The book was posted by Paul as a suggestion for me to look at :-)
