Yacht’s in dry dock, first blocking in stage on an ACF box canvas 16x20in. Mainly inspired by some sketchbook drawings and research, but needs a lot of sorting out which will be enjoyable! I’ll be keeping it very impressionistic and loose, once again with limited detail, more focus on a strong composition and muted blocks of colour! but it’s going to take some working out… and then there’s all that rigging! Watch this space…

Looking forward to seeing this develop Alan. As always the basic sketch is done really well, so important if you want those boats to look good , you  regular advice getting basics right create a good foundation for what follows.
You can already see Alan, it's going to be a cracking painting.
Looking very good Alan, and I’ll be interested to see what you think of the ACF canvases. I have bought two to try, but not used yet.
I must admit I feel a bit squeamish about them because they are man-made, I like the thought of traditional materials such as canvas. But I have one which I have yet to use and some more are on order. Who knows? I may be a convert.
In fairness, they aren’t bad and I’ve been relatively surprised at how easy they are to paint on. But, I like a coarser grained surface, and this is the only one that they make at the moment, but it is being looked into - it’s quite fine and perfect for artists that like to paint detail … which I don’t! This is my fourth canvas to date, definitely a good alternative, and the craftsmanship is second to none!

Ah, thanks for that.
Stage two, if anyone is interested!
Most definitely! I do like the colours you are using Alan.
The boats are taking shape really well Alan , just goes to prove that the basic sketch builds a strong foundation.
Your initial sketch was excellent Alan and it's really beginning to take shape and form. Lights and darks are strong and great contrast coming through already. Great palette.
Love this - composition and especially the colours.  (Would make an interesting slightly abstract painting just as it is.)
