I should like to try two things in one post: this is an acrylic and carbon pencil study for an 8" by 8" oil painting.  We'll see how it goes - board prepared.  It's of a small part of the Undercliff Nature Reserve - couldn't lug my oil paints down here, so did a sketch on the spot and added colour later.   Now then - full of generosity as ever: i.e., hardly at all, I offer it for anyone to have a go at doing their own version.   The background to this scene is very verdant cliff face, the foreground - which of course I haven't detailed in any way, is full of wild garlic, and the path - actually a lot less brown that I've sketched in here, wends its way up the cliff - up which, I fear, I am no longer able to climb.   Oh, and there's a good deal of ivy on those trees, which I haven't shown at all.  It's only little: have a go at it. I do have a photograph of the scene as well, but always better to work from sketches.
Nice idea Robert , but could you show the photographs as well please .   I can't work from anyone else's sketch .
That’s a good challenge, Robert. From your description alone, without your sketch as reference, I think I could conjure up an abstract! I’ll have to paint it in acrylics, as I don’t have oil paints. Fingers crossed!

As you will observe - I somewhat freely adapted it.
You know me, I'm always up for a challenge. I'll certainly give it a go. Will make a start on Tuesday, in oils.
Thanks .
By coincidence I’ve just walked around our local(ish) arboretum and took these photos of the wild garlic which I’ve never seen so much of- must be a good year for it. Feel free to use or mix up!
Inspiring photos, here is my attempt at Robert's shot.
That’s lovely Stephen. You’ve captured the sparkling light through the trees so well.
Yes, love the light. That's what always attracts me , the play of light.
Well done, Steven - a beautiful rendition; quite ironic that you've produced your version before I've got to grips with mine!  The board is staring at me emptily - has an ochre imprimatura but nowt else (the reason I can take so long to start a painting is that I tend to finish them quite quickly once I've begun - and as I enjoy the physical act of painting, I don't want it to end too soon.   And if that isn't bonkers, tell me what is!).  Anyone else want to have a go - I bet Sylvia and Denise will. Steven has really opened up the scene and let the sunlight in - and I love his strong darks, which of course enhance the light: a useful point to ponder for me.
