It looking great, so good to see the next stage.
This is coming along beautifully Alan, and I love your handling and control of ‘English’ colours and tones, interesting after the contrast of your Spanish series. It’s a fairly simple scene but you’ve made it structured and interesting, and your eye wanders around the painting happily.
Alan, that looks fabulous, and a far cry from its humble beginnings. Like you I always under paint as I don’t like starting with a white canvas. However, you make it look so easy. Mine are always at the cr**p stage initially, while yours, even in its beginnings, looks okay and like a proper painting.  Ellen
Thanks for that, yes Tessa, the idea was simplicity. These types of scenes are everywhere, but we often just ignore them, seeking out that something ‘special’, which probably isn’t there! Looking forward to pulling it all together, It may end up looking quite different, we’ll see!
Thanks Ellen, your comments are greatly appreciated. It is relatively easy if you work to the tried and tested method of building up your painting in thin layers to start with, tonal balance being the key here! But more about that in my e-newsletter WIP later this week.
Lovely to see your painting develop Alan.
I've enjoyed watching this painting develop, Alan, finding it very inspirational. I'm not around as much as I would have liked but we're hanging in there. Still walking and painting, though.
Thanks Margaret and Brian, I’ve been out early this morning to complete the final stage, but got rained off after 30 minutes. It’s 85% complete, looking quite different now though!  I’ll probably finish it in the studio now, we can’t control the weather!
Just so unfair....suddenly the muse came upon me...suddenly I had time.....suddenly I picked up a brush...just as suddenly it’s now in bits in the bin...
Ha ha, I like It, same here, I started painting off twice and rubbed it off twice and it's as it was, none existing, I've found baby wipes are good at getting rid of oil paint though 😂😂😂
Be really good to finished painting Alan. Sylvia and Linda like you two I have struggled to get going on anytime serious until yesterday. I have wanted to do a painting of Arlington Row for quite some time, I did a simple sketch and that seemed to get me fired up. I am also painting it slightly different to how I would normally. Don’t give up try to find something you wanted too but not had the time, or do something you are familiar with in a different way. Keep going you lovely talented people.
Well, unfortunately I had to finish much of this final stage off in the studio, the weather always has a say in these things! It's looking a touch 'overworked' in places perhaps, but I particularly enjoyed the first three stages whilst painting outside.
