Not quite the same as getting out and about, but thought I'd make a start on a few simple oil studies from my garden. So, I've just completed this first stage, it's a rough patch with last autumns heavy pruning, which I thought made a rather interesting composition in the foreground. I've got loads of quiet little area's that may make a painting - and at least I'm happy again, painting from life. Oil on MDF 20 x 20in.
Lovely start.   I must admit I agree with you, much prefer painting/sketching from life.
Looking good so far Alan, will be interesting to follow.
Great start Alan, look forward to see It progress.
Oh  today I painted a quiet corner in my garden so it resonates with me too.. thanks Alan for the start and the neat little beginning.. look forward to it..and here’s my watercolour
Thanks all (well all 4 of you), obviously these WIP’s are of little interest to most of the forum readers. The forum is pretty quiet at present mind you, I’m sure it will pick up in time. Well done Nandhini for your splendid effort. I’ve been out painting earlier, working on stage 2 before the rain comes in, no sign of it though as yet! I’ll post it shortly, haven’t photographed it yet.
Alan, I discovered when I had finished my recent WIP and added it to the Gallery, that several more people had been observing than had actually commented on the Forum, so I’m sure more are looking in on yours also! I remember that I took a while initially to sum up courage to add any comments to forum items, which I think is probably the case for quite a few. Look forward to stage 2.
I'm sure you're right Tessa, I started it in the hope that it would perhaps inspire a few more to do a bit of 'local' plein air painting. I'm enjoying it anyway! Here's the second stage. Those of you who have seen some of my many WIP's on the e-newsletters, will know that I almost always drop the sky in at around this stage of a painting. Two stages to go and it will be finished.
You make it look so easy Alan, love the second phase, I would be happy to leave it like this lol !!! You are encouraging  me to have a go to paint with oils in the garden, might have a go at just a small corner !!
Go for it Linda, work in stages/layers, and it will all come together. I thought I’d concentrate on this side of the garden for a change, I generally paint areas overlooking the pool, it’s so satisfying to be outside painting, more so now than ever!
That’s looking really good Alan, such a difference in the two stages. May I say you certainly know what you’re doing! Good to see a pro at work. Yes Linda, have a go, but the weather forecast is downhill this week, so you might want to be quick.
Will definitely give it a go, it's just started raining here hopefully just a slight shower otherwise it's been an ideal morning for painting outside 😀
