I don’t normally paint in bright colours I could not specifically say why it’s just how I paint . I was really impress by a article written by Alan Bickley about sunsets the article featured in The Artist and had some wonderful photos of the stage Alan took. I felt very inspired and wanted to do a what is for me bright sunset on a snowy scene but different to Alan’s . I used a photo I took several years ago and have painted as a spring scene, I hope you enjoy the stages .
Initial sketch , I like to have just a few lines to help keep everything in perspective
I rub out most of the pencil mark and have just the faint image .
Once it’s on the board I add some base colours.

I wouldn't fiddle with this one - really all you could do would be to enhance the tonal contrast a bit, i.e. some stronger darks in the trunks of the trees. But what would happen to that gentle atmosphere you've created if you did? Try that in a new painting, maybe, but this one is finished, in my opinion.
