Managed to get quite a bit more done over the last two days , I’m starting to add some shade and shadows plus some of the details in the bark . I was wondering about the background and thought of a dark on but needed a bit of advice who else can to go to for excellent advice other than Alan Bickley ( Master Artist) and always willing to help.  We discuss the importance of shadows , the artists best friends particularly when paint or indeed sketching round objects  Shade and shadows help to form the illusion of rounded objects as to the use of lines . Alan kindly did a quick illustration which I have included in the thread . First off  this is how much I have done the first photo is in sunlight.
It's all coming together well, Paul.
I think this is your best work to date Paul, it really is eye=catching. Its unusual and interesting. Alan always gives great advice to push your art further.
This is looking really good, Paul, love all the different shapes of the peeling bark - and I do like the blue background, it sets off the other colours really well, especially that burnt orange.  I guess it depends how realistic you want it to be, but it would look interesting as an almost semi-abstract in that triptych format.
Lew, Denise and Jenny thank you for your encouraging comments, as I was working on it yesterday Jenny I thought it was  much like working on an abstract not thst I have done many before now.  Thank you Denise , I’m really getting into this more than I thought I would and given that I have had very little enthusiasm of late that’s  a good thing. Certainly feeling more motivated and enjoying the time I have to paint far more , it’s also very relaxing.
Looking really good Dixie, and quite a challenge I assume to be working on the three at the same time. I really like the warm colours used so far.
It’s is a bit of a challenge working on the three but no different to having three separate painting on the go , which is not unusual for me . A silly thing that has caused me to think and check several time is the little line you get on birch trees that are within the bark , it gets the  to look natural and not too many that the Challenge. As to the colour they are my interpretation of what I can actually see but unfortunately can’t get the exact colours but then again it’s my representation of them . If I wanted the colours to be exactly like the photos I’m working from then I’d post the photo slight variations are good and we all see them a little different, lighter, darker and of course the  hues and tones . This painting I’m dedicating to my wife who has just undergone major surgery and is making a great recovery so I’m playing nurse , cook and bottle washer etc , this has been and is my escape and relaxation time, I already know her response as it’s normally what she say to my paintings , “ mmm it’s alright “.
Just spent another half hour and concentrated on the left panel which I thing is about done, to easy to fiddle with something like this .
Paul, this is one of the best things you've ever put on here: I think you'll be able to claim it as your Masterpiece.
Beautiful work, Dixie.
Thank you Robert , it’s the sort of thing I did a lot of when I first started painting but for some reason slipped away from it. I never did three at a time before well not on the dame sheet of paper that , to be honest it’s how I love to work and think I picked up the habit of trying to be more painterly to please others as much as myself.  It certainly comes from my passion for painting and drawing tree’s something that I’ve always done , working with trees in the Chilterns as a Ranger enabled me to get closer physically to then in the many different stage of their development, and ultimate decline. Out in all weathers even high winds doing safety checks enables you to see how they grow and function as well . Thank you Carol we must have been writing at the same time .

This is just lovely, Paul. My kind of thing - close up and colourful! I agree with the others - it’s probably one of your very best 😊
