Hang on Studio Wall

Three years ago I was given a iPad for my birthday at the time I was not to sure what I would do with it. Since then I have used it to store photos of my painting, searching the internet and of course accessing POL.  I start from the beginning photographing the different stages of a painting as this enabled me to see it from different angles at any time I wanted . What has been useful is looking back to see when I made the change . The other benefit is the ability to show how the painting was developed, I don’t keep the photos once the painting is completed.  What’s this got to do with a work in progress, I was showing some of the stages to a friend and decided to add it as a WIP is the answer. I got up at five this morning having had a very restless night and not wanting to disturb anyone else decided to stay in my room which fortunately is where I paint . This painting  is what came to mind , using parts of several photos taken last autumn. The initial sketch that lighten by rolling a putty rubber over the whole sketch.
Most of the work was done by  seven , it’s a5 in size and is on watercolour paper. I always take a shot from further back, that way it gives an idea of what it might look like hanging on a wall .
Just lovely.
Just lovely. Twice …lol

Looks good! Do you stretch your paper before you start?
Your initial drawing is excellent Paul and the colours you are using are so vibrant.
Thank you Willemien  , I don’t stretch my paper normally other that to tape it down. I haven’t stretch paper for a long time and don’t feel the need when I’m using good quality paper . I sometimes wet the paper well before taping it down particularly when I’m doing wet it wet , but let most of the water run off first  I cannot honestly remember the last time I stretched paper .  Almost finished I think all together I have spent a couple of hour or so. Doing it on and off as I have felt like it .
Thank you Denise, I always think the base sketch make the painting , the paint in using is from a set of thirty six tubes of artist quality paint that my son bought me recently. First time I have used it and like it a lot , also using a set of very fine detailing brushes my daughter bought me  again for the first time .
The last one , I think it finished but will wait awhile until I put it in the gallery. I might but a bit of the death I I lost on the centre leaf , lost it when I added  a green wash  to brighten it up.  I was trying to get the berries to look a translucent , unlike the hips that are dark and heavy looking.O

I have made a change to the centre leaf , I added the green on a whim and removed some finer  the detailing the one of things that was attracting me in the first place. I’m in the zone where I will fiddle and over work it , I think I have pushed my luck wetting it and removing some of the green . Ah well we live and learn .
