Well, I’ve suddenly got interested in trying to improve my watercolour techniques. Much different from oils which is my preferred medium but I’m enjoying the “ slowing down” that’s necessary. I’ve chosen portraits to experiment with because …..I like doing them! I stretched paper a couple of days ago ( 3 lots ) and laid down a base so as not to be confronted with white and I’ve done a couple of hours today.  There’s a long way to go re technique and clumsiness etc. No underdrawing. Sorry, forgot to “ edit”, knew it as soon as I began to upload! Gah!!
It’s looking so good already Marjorie, you are a really good artist so the move to watercolour should go well.

Done it for you Marjorie, hope you don't mind.  It's lovely.  Am still considering wether to dump the kid or ask her if she minds or not as the case may be ( sorry everyone ,Marjorie are talking in riddles 🌻)

I've still not had Covid - I did have a very serious lung infection around three years ago (?) and have since wondered if that was indeed Covid.  Anyway, don't want it again, and am vaccinated to the nth degree.  I hope you make a speedy recovery - if it's on the lungs, I well know how long it can take for all the symptoms to go. Excellent portrait, and what would we do without Sylvia?  (Who is Sylvia?  What is she, that all our swains commend her?) Returning to watercolour is something I do from time to time: I believe that if we keep up our painting in all the media in which we show even a spark of promise - and you of course show a lot!  - it benefits whatever our chosen medium might be.  You learn the limitations, and the advantages, of all media in the process.   I've been watching young Alan Owen this evening - at 89 of course he gets tired from time to time, and he seemed a bit tired to me - I'd like it if all our watercolourists would visit him on YouTube or Patreon (or both) and engage with him, say Hallo, or Keep Going you Fool, or whatever other salutation seems suitable.  He tries so hard to help others, it's time we all gave him a bit of support: the demo I watched this evening was one in which he admitted to not much liking drawing for watercolour, and preferred going straight in with the brush - that's what I do having learned the technique from him, and I certainly ain't there yet: but if I ever get there, it'll be down to Alan.  His wife's in hospital and has been ill for a long time - go and give the old lad a bit of a lift.

Finished for this one. I made mistakes…some of my washes are clumsy, I used an “ opaque” when I shouldn’t have, I maybe had the board at too much of an angle….but I enjoyed it! And that’s what it’s all about. Maybe Robert will recognise him. I’ll put it on the gallery.
I don't recognize him, but know I've seen him before!  Very frustrating - it might come to me yet..  Nothing wrong with a bit of opaque, but of course that depends on what you're trying to do - I saw somewhere today (I trawl the web a lot) a watercolourist saying that she always teaches people not to use white in watercolour - but when Winsor & Newton used to publish useful guides to colour-mixing, they produced a little guide which I think was written by Hesketh Hubbard, suggesting that a little white added to watercolours added to their subtlety - or could: stirring Chinese white or Titanium into watercolour mixes and making body colour is not, of course, the same as adding "a little".   I shall now strive to remember the name of your subject: a clue might help, though...
