As you probably know I love old boats especially the old abandoned boats thar are sadly left to rot away. The rusty metal and decaying wood cause some amazing effects both in shape and colours. There are apparently thousands with in the UK alone , fortunately a lot of photographers love to take photographs of the and often post them on the internet as free photos . This comes from a photo unfortunately no name for the photographer and a quite dull looking out of focus print . I think it possible a know boat graveyard in Brittany . I hope you enjoy my interpretation.  I have taken close up shots as well as two different distances as I find this help me to see how the painting is progressing and spot any think I need to change. . Initial sketch then into the painting with base colours I want to use.  I
Started to add some of the detailing, it’s at this stage that it starts to come together and when I notice the shape of the hull. Quite  often a lot of tweaking, and start to think more of the background do I want it detailed or slightly out of focus . I will fiddle with the boat a bit more before making any decision about the background as once it’s in the whole painting looks so different.
That looks really nice, Dixie.
Looking good Paul.
Thank you Carol and Denise , I’m really enjoying doing this just love painting these old boats such interesting shapes and colours.

Looking good, Paul.  (I’m amazed how neat and tidy your workspace is!  I’m ashamed to say mine is always extremely messy.)

I thought the same… clean or what! Anyway, a favourite subject of mine also Paul, a promising start!
Great colours. Is it wet in wet, or perhaps dry brush blending...beautiful.
Thanks Carol, Jenny, Alan and Norrette I appreciate your kind comments . I spent quite a lot of time working in a dental surgery the habit of tidying up and I go along is a hangover from those days. It helps as well that it’s actually in my bedroom so there is a incentive to keep it tidy due to that. I know you have a liking for painting boats Alan and always make a great job of one when you do.  I have been out all morning and plan to do a bit more this afternoon I did do a little bit more before going out.
I’ve reached that stage where I think it’s done and don’t want to fiddle with it , a bad habit mine . I won’t put it on the gallery just yet until I have aphasia a look at it later .
You're very good at painting boats Paul, it's obvious you enjoy to watch them, and even more, you do study them too, you are the person who's not only painting them, but you like to educate yourself too, to learn about those boats you painting 😊 To me it's finished, but I know you mean... It's always better to step away for a while, then come back with fresh look 👍
