Have been painting early stages on a large canvas. There's a long way to go but I wanted to establish some main shapes and tonal values.
I like it already! 😃
Looking good - I think the composition is working nicely
I look forward to seeing how this work progresses. You've made a good start!
I like it a lot, Fiona. You say you’ve a long way to go….. but for me, I think it’s finished! It works well in monotone.
Thank you for all of your valued comments. On balance, I too prefer the painting in monochrome so I will develop it that way. Because it's a large canvas (72cm x 76cm), I had thought that it needed more work. Sometimes less is more though and the spaces do seem to work. So, a change in direction and see what happens.
I didn't have the confidence to render the painting in monochrome but, it's almost finished. It needs some highlights. Still not sure about the magenta though.
I do like the overall effect, Fiona. If it was mine, which it isn’t, I’d probably tone down the magenta slightly. But only you can decide that and do what you feel is right, because if you feel happy with it, that’s the most important thing.
I really like it , you could tone down the magenta but not too much . It really what your happy with that counts the most and a lot opinions will cause confusion as we all will say something slightly different.
Thank you Ellen and Paul. You are right about the magenta. I did think it too dominant.
Sorry, posted twice.

I rather like the magenta, Fiona, it’s a lovely vibrant colour.  Maybe you could add a small patch, perhaps a square, of the same colour somewhere in the bottom right hand corner to balance the colours.
