A few weeks ago I started doing a series of owls , whilst showing them to a friend someone asked why I had not painted an eagle owl. The simple answer was I had not thought about it , I wax offered the opportunity to photo his pet eagle owl and of course took the opportunity. So I spend a good hour or so on Thursday, lucky the weather was perfect for her to fly as well as static photos.  This is the pose I went for just as she was landing on a lure. I don’t know yet what background to put in or if I should include the prey it would be hunting. Views fro different distances and angles to give the idea of it from further away.  A3 size watercolour paper mi
It looks as though it all ends very dramatic.  Lots of hard work with all those feathers.  I love their orange eyes (apparently a sign of being a twilight hunter).
How very fabulous Paul.  …we have a place close by with owls and birds of prey.   Have spent time with them.  As I mentioned earlier  I am painting elephant# I; London Zoo next week.  Problem is it will take a lot of paint not to mention the size of the brushes .

Hope it ends looking dramatic Linda. You plan on doing a life size one  then Sylvia, don’t gorget the step ladders. You are right Linda the feathers are taking up time, I want it ax detailed ax I can without overworking it. Moved on a bit but it is time consuming, enjoyable though.
Looking great Paul. I also have an owl sanctuary near me and great about painting a elephant at London zoo Sylvia. Haven't been there in years! Faye
Thanks Faye .
Looking good Paul hope you're keeping a count on those feathers..we had owls  living in the loft of our sons house in France,  they kept the mice in check.
This is looking great Paul.

Sylvia Evans on 25/09/2021 13:26:15You’re not doing it life size, are you Sylvia?
Good progress Paul.  I look forward to the end result.  I think that to attempt it any smaller would be very fiddly indeed.
Thank you all for you kind comments. I was not able to do much yesterday to busy building a cottage out of some large boxes with my two youngest granddaughters. I managed to get a half to paint just before dinner, decided to put in the background base colours. Setting is on the fringe of woodlands , very similar to the New Forest grass areas, at sunset / twilight. Still at lot to do on the background and of course all those feathers , not sure if I should paint in the rabbit , some people find it upsetting but then it’s nature in the raw, no blood though.
Coming along well Paul 😁 I bet you had lots of fun with your grandchildren
