Getting to the more interesting challenges now, particularly his face and his flame-coloured hair. All with a b&w photo as reference but helped by a new friend, in Scotland, who provided a colourised version of the photo for me.  I find it interesting that I get very frustrated and critical during the painting process but enjoy the results later on when checking from my phone camera. I am learning to tell myself that some 'mistakes' are not mistakes at all, and if they are then they are easily corrected! Thankfully the weather has been dry all week daytime here in south Leeds.
Looking good, James. Hope the dry weather stays with you.
Sorry for the immense size of the image, if it is. This is 99% finished now. It has taken around 90 hours work all told. Much paint acrylic, quite a few Posca pens involved as well as good old-fashioned pencils. The labour has included me having to haul a rather large scaffold tower eah time as well, and I hurt my left arm on it and therefore have hardly used the tablet!

Well James, you’ve triumphed! And despite worrying about finding images of Bremner, it is a good likeness. What do they think of it?

Nothing but praise so far, but that's to be expected as everyone is biased (it's an iconic photo) but I'm more than satisfied with it and we deserve that selfishness, don't we? Thank you, this one of Billy Bremner is probably the hardest mural I will do, which is why I chose it really.
No, I don’t think praise will be biased. Just think of Ronaldo’s sculpture in Madeira…no one kept their negative thoughts to themselves there!

I should hope they didn't lol. I didn't word it very well, by 'bias' I think I really mean that just about every Leeds fan WANTS the murals to be good. Incidentally there is a statue of Bremner outside the stadium... I have never really liked it - it is iconic but not a great likeness really. Each to their own opinion of course, and the fact it was sculpted is more important to some than an accurate likeness. Sculpting is one skill I am in awe of.
THAT is an achievement: well done.
James, you say your mural is 99% finished. I'd just like to ask something about the orange motif on Bremner's shirt. Do you think a thread of the net or a shadow of it should pass across it to send it back onto the shirt? Other than that, it jells nicely.

Adding/creating such an aspect would look odd, Carol, in my view. Not to worry anyway, that badge is probably the most accurate aspect of it all, and the yellow/orange is 'popping' which I really wanted to happen. It's just a fan thing, I love colour to jump out at you.
