I know there are all sorts of reasons why people stop posting on the gallery, I haven't posted for a couple of years - it is hard to pick up the brushes again once something gets in the way. Having said that I realised, yesterday that I hadn't seen a Michael McManus posting on the gallery for a while. A quick check suggested he last posted 6 months ago. His paintings and sketches quite often had an amusing, if somewhat tall, story to accompany them, which I always enjoyed. I was just wondering if anybody knows anything.

Sorry Tony I’m as much in the dark as you , we do tend to forget that we haven’t seen someone for a while then suddenly wonder why . I personally just hope that they are all well and are not painting for some reason or have just moved on , sadly we miss out on their work , humour and interaction.

In at least two cases, the cause was bereavement - this is a pain which can take a very long time to ease, and can knock any creative urge right out of one's life. I have sometimes contacted the individual, when I have the means to do so obviously, but am slow to do that as it can be intrusive; on the other hand, it can be just what they need - it's so hard to tell.
People do also fall from life's fragile perch themselves, of course; or just move on - I remember when Adebanji Alade posted here; I suspect that today he's just too busy, as Vice President of the ROI! It would obviously be great if he were to return. Others I miss are Rupert Cordeux, Jacqui Simmonds (may have mis-spelled that), and Arnold Lowry - we can't keep 'em all, but I have hope that one or two will pop back, just to see how we're all getting on.

I know exactly what you mean Tony. I often think about some people I knew from the now closed art tutor site I used to belong to. Some don't seem to post here anymore but I see their work elsewhere. Then sadly others have disappeared off the face of the earth and I cannot find anything about them. I hope Michael is just in a slump like me.

Another person who used to be very active on the site when I first joined POL is Dennis Rounding. He did over the years have a few absences and then reappeared but hasn’t posted on the gallery for about two years now, and I do sometimes wonder how he is, he was always very encouraging with his comments.
