We could send a rowing boat and a school boy with a catapult as that’s about the only thing we have left these days.
You're doing a grand job, Dixie. The problem does seem to be getting worse. Why they do it is beyond me.
I'm told they do it as a training ground; if they can hack us, to the exent they really are, they have practice for bigger prey.  I'm not sure I believe that, though.  After all, if they get just one reply to their advertisements for illegal goods, that's a result for them.  I wouldn't have responded at this point, but I think when you say the problem is getting worse, that's not really so - it's not getting a lot better, that's true!  But when I was doing this on my own, I was up half the night fighting off one spammer after another.  I think the volume has slowed, and I suspect and hope that's because there are more of us doing it, and therefore these pestilences have far less time to display their dodgy wares.  It is annoying that the internet is so vulnerable, though - of course, I'm totally ignorant of the processes they use and the tricks available to them, but I just have this feeling that if you design something like the World Wide Web, you might ALSO have designed ways of keeping it secure. Which is, I can guarantee, totally naive of me.  So let me just repeat - I am personally grateful to my fellow moderators for all they do, often getting to the miserable miscreants before I do.
It does spoil the enjoyment within the threads. Thank goodness for the dedication of the moderators, not an easy task by the sound of it.
I zapped around 20 or so a couple of hours ago. It doesn’t take long in fairness, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be the lone moderator as Robert was for some years. I don’t imagine for one second that they monitor what they post, so probably not aware that they get removed fairly quickly… generally speaking that is!
Thanks all.  I have had a couple of sessions since I started moderating, but if I'm busy, I don't look in here often enough, so you beat me to it! I understood that the sellers run 'farms' - just imagine a classroom of low paid individuals doing such stuff, who get paid per 100 clicks or so.  I tracked one of the posts via google, and they also plague a craft forum. I think we're the chosen ones because it's easy to sign up here, and easy to post straight away.
