Years ago I painted my own version of (part of) a Cézanne still life. I dragged it out, still in a frame…my own table, jug, glass, apples and cloth. I’m now going to paint it in my own style - looking forward to it.
Very nice Marjorie. Looking forward too.
Think I've got the challenge wrong.  The Mona pic was a famous painting in my style,  then I thought the idea was to copy a famous pic in your style.  Don't think that's right.  But as I did this next pic in response to the challenge I'm going to bung it on here anyway. I'm not a big fan of Gustav Klimt, but I do admire maybe half-a-dozen of his paintings.  My favorite is his portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer.  He use oils and gold  leaf, I'm using pen, watercolour and coloured pencils.  I was surprised how blue her skin was, with patches of yellow.  I don't know how accurate the ref photo is that I used, they often get the colours wrong...but I had to work from something.  The weird patterns in the background drove me barmy (remind me never to do this again).  I couldn't copy them, so I copied a few background bits, and  made the rest up...hopefully in similar style.  I was surprised how roughly done these background pattern marks were...lucky for me...because my are really rough.  I'm so glad I chose only to do a small part of the painting.  Apart from those crabby patterns, I quite enjoyed doing it.
Lewis that's just brilliant,  just can't add to that. Its just so good
Lew , it’s a double challenge, paint your own scene etc in the style of a famous artist style or paint a famous painting in your style . Your fine and a its great painting as well .
Lew, I think your blue-ish toned skin works better against the gold background than Klimt's more yellow skin tones.
I did this a couple of years ago and I still really like it. My painting of Big Ben in the style of Wassily Kandinsky.
That's very good Denise. Very clever
That’s good, Denise.  I don’t pretend to understand abstract art, but I tend to like Kandinsky ‘s work.
Love that one Denise , it’s superb . My take on a William Fraser Garden landscape , 180x 240 mm I set myself a time limit of 40 minutes. One of the recent artist featured on the inspiration thread , and the one that has had more impact on me over the last three years of researching artist for the thread .
Part 3 of Paul’s challenge was to paint in a style and medium you’re not familiar with. These were a couple of my first attempts at monotype prints using blue acrylic (printed on my usual watercolour paper).  Keep meaning to have another go, but found the whole process rather messy! Trouble is you have to enjoy a process or a subject. By this I don’t mean you shouldn’t be adventurous…..that’s different I think. Often you try something different because it attracts you, that’s the crux for me anyway. You still learn from something which wasn’t particularly satisfying, it’s whether you try again, albeit with adapting the method etc.
