Marjorie I love your Autumn Flame.
Collette Hughes on 02/11/2023 21:35:15
Thanks Collette. I remember some people passing it by without a glance when it was in an exhibition. It’s one I personally like now even though I had doubts when I painted it.
Here's one that I've just posted on the gallery which I did for an adult education class which should fit the bill.  It's a lone tree on the corner of two roads next to a bus stop.  Autumn colour crops up in the most surprising places.
Lovely work, Marjorie, keep posting, love that tree. Is it an old common Ash?
Carol  Jones on 02/11/2023 16:55:06 Its still as beautiful, Marjorie :)
Carol, it’s a centuries old olive tree in the Valley of the Temples in Sicily. I hope that hasn’t disappointed you.

Carol - donkey's years ago, I used to look deep into the flames of our old coal-fired boiler, and saw trees, faces, landscapes.... I'm sure my mum thought I was mad.  But then - she couldn't pass running water - looking down from a bridge, looking into the swirls and eddies, it was all she could    do to stop herself jumping in (which would have been a mistake, since she swam like a brick).  Movement, plus light - especially flickering light - can create images in our brains; I was quite, and am now very mildly, epileptic (they still won't let me drive, probably wisely): this all makes far more sense to me than it might to some.
Robert Jones, NAPA on 02/11/2023 19:32:53 I've always found it comforting looing into the fire when I was a child, mam always had the radio on in the kitchen, I too saw things when I told my mother she smiled. I should imaging your mother, when she looked down into the water, had a touch of vertigo, not a nice experience, glad she didn't topple in. Not being able to drive can be be a good thing and bad, firstly the nutters on the road, and a not so good for having a certain independence. The latter I'm feeling at the moment, but not for long. Going back to the fire I'm sure you'll still see lovely things within the flames, we never lose that ability as we grow older, I believe.

Carol and Robert like you I have often seen shapes in the fire and in the bark of trees etc . When I worked in Mental Health Day Care I attended a course with a well know art therapist and a psychiatrist we talked about people seeing thing in fire , trees , patterns on curtains etc , both said it had nothing to do with mental health issues and more often than not it was people who were artistic who noticed it the most. I actually find it quit comforting noticing shapes and patterns it’s also provided inspiration occasionally. So I count my self in good company along with you and others who have the same experiences and long may we continue to notice .
Its lovely if its something that changes like fire or clouds,  or something like textured paper. Sometimes I see them in something I'm stuck with like my bathroom tiles, then my eyes go straight back to the face each time I'm in there, I wish I could unsee it.
Yes it can be very distracting and I bet disturbing for some people. We had a cracked tile in the kitchen that looked like a eye staring at you soon removed it after moving in . In the living room there is a stone wall and when my youngest daughter was small we used to look for thinks in the stone shapes and colours.
Once you see something ( like Robert’s knife) you can’t “unsee” it. I was once asked to paint white material draped in folds on a table for friends of my brother ( a commission). I was quite pleased with the result until my brother mentioned he could see what seemed like a body  as if in a shroud. Well, after that, it was all I saw. We kept quiet and hoped the recipients hadn’t seen the same thing.

oh Collette, I have the exact same “mishap”; bathroom tiles. Unfortunately, all the tiles look exactly the same, so I see what I'm not allowed to say out loud (and don't want to think about it all the time) 100 times over... I have to close my eyes in the bathroom... hehe
HELLO 👋  I'm not sure how to get hold of Diane Boswell, if anyone has her number. Could someone please call her. I'm worried her account has been hacked on Instagram and she's unaware.  Apologies to message on here!
