A local art group have been pushing for abstract......I just cant do it........My husband pushed me to try something over christmas and this was the result. I hate it but he loves it I guess all those days out on the cold moors have affected his brain!! I just cant let go enough to do real abstract work
Ellen Mooney both here and the gallery is the abstract Queen.   Her stuff is lovely even if I don’t understand it.  Like you Susan I can’t do it either.    Maybe someone could explain to me and Susan.  Welcome to the forum.
Welcome to the forum Susan , I agree with Sylvia ( often the best thing to do) look at Ellen work it’s excellent, as are the abstracts of many artists on the site . Like you it’s something I can’t really get my head around them , but I do enjoy other peoples abstracts. Like you moorland scene .
Interesting work Susan, perhaps verging on semi-abstract! My advice would be to paint what you’re comfortable with, if abstracts don’t interest you then don’t attempt them. Unless you want to challenge yourself, which is no bad thing. Art needs to be enjoyable, stick within your comfort zone! Why not show some of your work on the gallery - you will receive comments from other artists.
Vintage Paint - a soft pastel still life of my old paint tubes I 'inherited' from an elderly lady who stopped painting. I hope this is the start to a deeper exploration of the potential of pastels. This painting, I am happy to say, will be featured as the Editor's choice in the 'Artist' magazine in April 2022.
It's a stunner Alexandra

Funnily enough, that was where I conducted my undergrad research and their two Sand Cats were two of my subjects (my background is in zoology, specialising in cats)! Good to know they are still there :)
