Perhaps a long shot for Linda's as I can't find that image in a painting, but based on the style, possible association with Mary Cassatt, around at the same time at least, and a name that isn't quite Mary, I will for for Marie Bracquemond.
Sorry Tony, not Marie Bracquemond.  Another clue, She was taught by John Singer Sargeant’s teacher.
That gave it away, Linda!  A little research came up with Mary Fairchild Macmonnies Low.  I think the title was Sarah Hallowell.  Hadn’t heard of the artist before. Just seen Fiona’s new challenge - oh dear, no pressure then!  Don’t immediately recognise it. Won’t have time to look until later - perhaps someone else will have got it in the meantime!

Fiona, is yours Ben Nicholson’s Still Life with Mugs?  It looks very similar.  Not an artist I’m familiar with, but he seems to have done a series of them.

Yes it is Jenny! I thought you would guess it without any trouble. Too easy perhaps?
Fiona, no, it wasn’t too easy - to start with I thought it might Braque, but when I realised the image included a mug handle I think I searched something like abstract still life with mug and found him - surprised I haven’t come across him before.  Learning all the time!

Well done Jenny!  Those hands really are well painted, unlike mine.  My only excuses are that I used acrylic, not oil and that mine is tiny compared to the original.  But here is the whole replica.  Apparently Mary Fairchild Mcmonnies Low won gold prizes for her paintings.

I’m much kinder than everyone else! I show more of the painting!😇 Hope this doesn’t come out too big! And time to relax, it’s easy!

Great idea, I'll have to have a go.
Yes, have a go Judith!
Hope 2022 is off to a creative start for you all? We had a letter recently from Robert Wild, a 78-year-old leisure painter, who taught himself to paint by studying and copying the Old Masters. During lockdown he decided to work on three paintings by Constable, concentrating on small sections of the paintings at a time and I thought this would make a great challenge for this month. Pick a painting by a famous artist you love, print it out and choose a small section to really study and paint. It could end up quite abstract or far more detailed. I wonder if we can all guess which paintings provided the inspiration too!

I've never thought of doing this, and decided to have a go while waiting for an appointment - wish I'd given it more time, and will certainly have another go!
Is it Flatford Mill by Constable, Judith?
