I know the feeling Gillian, I have had a busy year - accidents and incidents - holidays, visitors from the Antipodes, strange weather demanding gardening activities. But I am changing my bad habits and returning to the fold.
Impressive sketching from all and well done for keeping the thread going.
Although I didn’t usually contribute to this thread, it doesn’t mean that I don’t sketch.
I have just finished another A3 sketch book and had to get another one. The tutor at the life class that I go to each week, always puts in lots of quick poses, to get our hand eye coordination going. So I now have books full of them and wondered what to do with them. I think kindling paper would be a good use as I know that eventually when I pop my clogs the will end up in the tip.
Here are a couple of my quickies.

Ni e work Linda. I have at last managed to visit the art shop in Oxford and bought a grey toned sketch pad , something I know Alan uses and I like the look of the work on the grey background. This is my first attempt used pen and pastel, white and a mid tone grey, obviously need more practice but I’m quite happy with the result.

It’s such a great medium on grey paper Paul, you’ll love using it.
Nice job here, just a top tip if I may as you progress… try and limit the amount of white chalk, use it more as a highlight for your focal point - don’t scatter it all over everything, because the eye can’t settle on the focal point if you do that…
This is an example of one I did earlier…

Nice sketch Gill. Two from me well one decent one and a bit of a disaster, the first is the one I’m not happy with just as I was using a white acrylic pen for highlights on the water it dropped a large blob of white that I could not remove. I tried to hide it but gave up hence part finished . Thought in should show failed work as well, we don’t always get it right .
The other is a Thames sailing barge , tied up for the night , part imaginary scene inspired by a 1910 photo .
