Have just returned (away enjoying a superb pastel art exhib) and unfortunately can see spam. I'm sure Dawn is doing her best but looks like not all the little horrors have been eased out. On a happier note the exhibition I went away to see was well worth the trip.
Welcome back Sandra, will we be seeing some pastel work from you after the exhibition? Dawn is back and spam has eased considerably - it will take time.
Thank-you Alan for your kind message. No you won't be seeing any pastel work from me, I have tried soft pastel several times but just can't hack the dust, so after the last abortive attempt decided to stick to paint. It will be at least next week before I have anything to post, if then, as it always takes me a while to finish a painting (and I don't post all of them). I'll be going to a workshop on Saturday though so have some hopes of that. I haven't worked through my "follow" emails yet, will have a lot of Gallery to catch up.
That's nice Sylvia, I didn't think anyone would notice! The exhibition really was excellent, a large room of lovely works in all genres, even a few abstracts. I was especially impressed by a superbly painted Empress moth, with an individual stroke for each hair, it looked just so tactile, and with wonderful colours. I often feel quite envious of the lovely exhibitions you get it the UK (advertised in POL's two excellent magazines), it isn't as good here. I did remark to the youngish lady at the front desk that it was such a treat to see an art exhibition that wasn't just gimmick, by her lack of response I don't think she agreed with me!
Do you mean captcha for every post? There's no need for that. Several other forums I am on simply have registration and approval by mods as a standard feature and there is ZERO spam. No one can post without first registering and being approved by a mod. Most even ask WHY you want to join...what is your rationale? It works. But It's Dawn's baby Im sure and she will sort it.
No Captcha - just new members have to be approved and their account activated before they can add to the forum. We had a few glitches along the way but it looks like we are there at last. It does mean that any genuine new members need to be patient over weekends as I won't be here to activate anyone - I will make sure someone covers my holidays though (yes they do let me out sometimes!)
I'm sure that all new members will understand the need for these measures. It has been a bit of a nightmare, but thanks initially to Robert, all was kept reasonably under control. Since Dawn has returned, the spam has been decreasing almost daily - what a relief! Thank you both.
Agreed. And hopefully Robert will now have time for some painting.
Your hard work to keep us moving forward, without hesitation and deviation, is much appreciated :)

This time two weeks ago, there were hundreds of spam messages, inviting us to download all sorts of old cobblers. And today? Nothing. Oh frabjous day! Calloo, callay! he chortled, in his joy...
I do, I do. But I dare to hope that Dawn has found the answer to the spam - and so far, it seems to be working. We may get occasional attacks from now on, but the new system should reduce the flow at the very least, and hopefully stop it altogether. Even so, my fingers are crossed.
Providence Testing????.....sorry? We have just got a new telephone system in the house with call stopping and now have to work out that works
