Thanks Robert for all your efforts . No one seems to be taking this awful disruption seriously apart from you. If it’s not addressed soon I would think it will kill the whole site. Please can someone at least say what is being done if anything, if nothing is being done then the spammers have won...well done them.
I agree, Sylvia, Robert has done, and is doing a wonderful job, and I'm sure it must be a headache for him. I too hope something will be done.
I agree with you all, this can't continue like this. I have just written an email to a senior member of the editorial staff, outlining our feelings and concerns regarding this current spate or epidemic of spam. There is no doubt that Robert's efforts to eradicate these 'half-wits' has helped enormously to keep things on track to some degree. The shear volume of spam has just been ridiculous on this occasion and has got out of control. I agree that the current situation as it stands is untenable. As I've said on several occasions this week, Dawn is on holiday until I think next Tuesday. This is her domain as we all know, and as the online editor I am confident that she will address this issue on her return. Until then, we may have to live with it a while longer, let's see. What I think we are looking for, is some assurance that the management is aware of this situation. They will be of course, and if I have further news later regarding my email I will pass it on to you.
Good stuff Alan, do let us know. I'm happy to have to re-register as a Site user if that's what's needed after the techies have done their thing.
Just to put you all in the picture, I have heard back from a senior member of the editorial staff, and they are of course aware of the current situation. They will be monitoring things, but basically, the overall picture will be looked at and dealt with on Dawn's return. Dawn will, I'm sure, be just as anxious as we are to sort this lot out, so let's be patient and wait for her return. I'm confident that she will sort it out quickly, so that we can get back to normality once again.
I too would be happy to re-register or do anything else necessary once the techies have done their thing.
Dawn is away until 10th April. I reported some spam and it has bounced back to me. So role on 10th april.
If you press the report button rather than email Dawn directly, it will come to me. As indeed, many, many have.....
I couldn't agree more Sylvia! And before we lose too many more of our forum contributors.
Spambot captcha or javascript hidden field, but everyone would have to re-register or it could be sent out as a member confirm form with the css hidden field or 'question'. Bots can't think :-) The replies would have to be checked. Problem there is not all members will reply straight away. I suppose you could add the hidden 'field' code block to the forum forms. That would highlight the spammer accounts more easily. There well may be trojan members. Blocking IP's won't work as they are often non-static IP's. I don't write ASP.NET I'm a MAC man these days so it isn't something I am up on. Captcha on the forum form is my choice.

I understand the post, but couldn't do it! It's very hard to put this stuff in plain English, but it just isn't written that way to start with, it's transcribed in terms of other applications with which many of us won't be familiar: and they were coined in far-off California for the most part. However, Dawn is back! Yahoo, and, indeed, Whoopee!
Keep your fingers crossed when you say that, chillun..... I've removed a few posts today, but Dawn has been easing the little horrors out of their hiding places. Let us hope the flood has abated.
