I rather foolishly suggest on another post that we should show our disasters. Painting that for what ever reason didn’t do what we wanted or as in my case I became bored with and lost interest part way through. So I have opened my mouth now it’s time to follow through.  My first is on I became fed up with and just did anything to finish it . No 2 was a case of did the engine now what oh hell just leave it. Do feel free to join me in the wall  of shame .
Ha ha, I don't have any to show - honestly! - because I always paint over them.
I like the wheelie thing Dixie it’s interesting .  The wooded one mmmm yes... I’m not joining in either . Like Marjorie they get painted over.  Or torn up and put in the recycling.   Brave man.

There does come a point when painting, especially with watercolour, when I too say your very words, Dixie. I'll photograph some of my X's and pop them in.
We can all relate to this thread.  Sometimes I know a picture isn't going well, and I should just abandon it.  I tend to soldier on, because in a few instances a picture that started badly has turned out OK.  I still have many of my disappointments because I photograph everything these days, and in most cases I can paint on the back...if I worked in oils or acrylic I'd have painted over them. Here's one a did a few years back... It just doesn't gel as a picture for me...I can't pin down exactly why it doesn't work and why I don't like it...but it's a big miss.  On these occasions you have to tell yourself it's just a piece of paper, and do something else. Here's another similar picture... I do know why I don't like this.  First, I used some ref pics for the faces...I seldom do that for this sort of image, it's better to make it up.  The figures don't really work together, and the man's, third from left, head is too big...knowing it wasn't working I rushed it to some kind of finish.  A waste of time. Two's enough, there are plenty more.
Why is my grandson bottom middle in there ?
Your so called disasters Are  better than my normal work Lew but I know when you don’t like a painting etc all you see is the mistakes . I keep some of mine for when I have lead workshops , people look at my work and say I can’t paint like that, then I show the mistakes and say I don’t alway get it right . If it decent paper and worth saving I use the backs but not always for what I would call a proper painting.
Here's one of mine that just never worked.  It was an experiment using just one brush, but right from the start I was never happy with it - which probably contributed to a lack of enthusiasm for doing anything about it
I know that feeling well Tony not happy with it from the start but so some reason keep at it . I don’t know if it’s pride or stubbornness, or in my case a hope it will get better .
Currently digging through my old paper files, because I wouldn't have photographed the utter failures - I think of Lew's that even though I can see a picture hasn't entirely come together, his drawing remains superb; and I'm with Dixie here - I'm damn' sure I couldn't draw as well as that, and import as much character into so many different characters as Lew can.  The odd one or two I can manage - eg my Roman Centurion of a while ago, if anyone remembers it; the occasional colloquy of rats (there's a word!  Hope it means what I think it means..) I can do; but to capture such a variety of expressions on considerable numbers of people - that takes observation, imagination, and a love of people that I'm not entirely sure I possess in the same degree... Anyway, I'll get digging for my total stinkers: you've seen two mild stinkers of mine already, but I know there's worse, lurking in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
