After replying to a comment on the much liked artist week, I happened to mentioned I liked the art of the old railway travel posters, and I never got to mention in the appropriate week. The heyday for these type of Posters were the golden age of steam , were the different railway franchises advertised places to visit via their network.  Artist such Frank Sherwin, Claude Buckle, Alker Tripp, Leonard Cusden and Ronald Lampit Alice Cole were commissioned to undertake just some of the many posters created.  To highlight some of the posters I will show some of my local beach, sadly the railway no longer run there, and in reality no longer look like it now. 1 Hunstanton LNER H G Hawthorn 2 Hunstanton BRITISH RAILWAYS Henry Stringer 3 The art Deco style of Alice Cole 4 Clude Buckle  These types of poster are still relevant today where artists are making them for tourist to their area. Places like ETSY are full of them. Here is one for Woodbridge, not quite the Artdeco of the past, but I like the clean lines. an  modern artist who has inspired me to take on some of her Ideas is Susie West, she has had a book Published called a Passport to painting, with ideas of how to create your own posters. Here is  of one of hers. Hope you enjoyed, my little musings, please fell free to comment.

Excellent choice of posters , I used to love seeing them as a child and paid more attention as I got older and became more interested in the artwork.
Those are brilliant Alan. Great  idea.  Here are two to widen the North / South   Divide.

They were wonderful, weren't they?  Did we really appreciate them at the time?  Probably not - but then, did we really appreciate the services they advertised, so many of which have either gone now or become prohibitively expensive?
Wonderful graphic style drawing quality to them… I particularly like the railway carriage posters, very collectible nowadays!
Love the old railway posters.  Interesting to see Alan has also shown one of Susie West’s modern travel posters - she’s a local Surrey based artist (lives in the same town as me) and her work is always very popular locally.  She travels and paints her way around Britain’s cities, towns and villages, and has painted 186 so far.  Here are a few more.

Thanks Jenny, I only discovered her work a couple of months ago, she dose not always do the obvious as this one shows  186 all very different in there approach. Robert I will play the to young card to remember steam trains. But I think its because I never traveled by train when I was a kid. Now every where we go we try to have a day at an heritage train station and have a ride.
I used to produce sheets of railway posters for model stations so I've got hundreds of images from the 1860's to the present day. The 1930's were the best period in my opinion and in the UK the Southern railway were streets ahead of the other three companies. These are a few of my favourites (the top one is post 1945): I'll be happy to post some from the other railways if people are interested.

There’s just something about the art deco trains, boats, and planes that resonate with me. Also the way they capture the essence of the place they are advertising.
Remember this one?  It used to be everywhere.  Apparently one of the most famous posters, much reproduced by other artists. Posters?  You can't beat 'em.  Everyman's art.
This is the original, done for the Great Northern in about 1910 and it put Skegness on the map.  They've been using it with variations ever since...this is from the 1950's: The jolly fisherman has become the town mascot.
