If we look at the forum" latest " you will see that two threads havehuge numbers of posts compared to the rest . This has reulted in less attention being paid to the other threads which have slid down and off very quickly.. its nice to chat but are we all really interested in competitions for example and just airing our views on things in general. We need new topics all the time and to try very hard to keep,a thread from becoming a lengthy discussion on Everything in General to the detriment of what culd bevgiven more comment . Just scan the number of posts and you will see what I mean by comparing the post numbers . Syd

With every respect, I accept I'm a reasonable newcomer here, butI'm not quite sure where you're going with that Sid? People will answer posts or threads if they wish to or not ,or if the topics interest them; and conversation is surely the whole idea of forums? Nothing to stop several threads operating at the same time, but again that's up to the contributers and surely you can't make rules about what people choose to talk about or how long they do it for? I personally don't find anything boring with the forums; if it is, I just don't read anything that doesn't interest me. Seems simple enough to me?
Jim.

Well come on then Syd, start something new with an interesting theme. It's no good complaining if you have nothing for which we can comment on. I'm also quite new on the forum but don't enter into all the threads as they don't interest me or perhaps I feel I'm not knowledgeable on the specific subject to air my views. The last thread I started has been very interesting to me as there have been all sorts of views on the subject - at least people were talking, which I would have thought is what you are after!
So come on what shall we talk about?

If people are willing and interested enough to add comments to an existing thread then, as far as I am concerned, the Forum is doing what it is intended for. Incidentally, I put a new thread on yesterday and in spite of having 32 views, nobody has commented. Now that could be that they are just not interested in that topic, and that is fine. But if you are getting fed up with competitions and general chit-chat and things that have been discussed before and new members testing our abilities as "art experts" in order to help identify a painting, Syd, which you have mentioned in the past, then I am afraid you might not get anyone contributing.

At the moment, we're going through one of our periodic contribution deserts - the forum slumps now and then into the slough of despond, with few new, interesting posts. There have been some, but not many for a while. Even our spammers seem to have deserted us .... But it's always picked up in the past, and I'm sure it'll do so again: I admit that I've visited every morning for the last couple of weeks, found very little to comment on, uttered a regretful 'tsk', and have spent half an hour looking at the new Gallery postings, then moving on to see whom I can really annoy on the Guardian comment pages. (This is an all too accurate picture of my life at the moment - I've also painted myself out; a furious flurry of activity a month ago has ground to a halt as I contemplate what on earth I should be doing next: so perhaps it's just the time of year, that indeterminate period between Spring and Summer.)
Give it time - and maybe I'll think of something suitably controversial to put on the Forum: that usually wakes us all up......

P'raps everyone's outside painting.
This IS a quiet Forum, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Forum pages generally have seen usage drop off with the rise of Fartbook; that leaves the really keen users on the Forum and the others on Social Media.
I think Robert's got a good idea. House art in the Falls Road area from the time of the Northern Irish troubles anyone? Banksy is Pants?

Aren't we a tinsy bit flattered that some people think POL is full of experts? The trouble is that the Forum has been going for some time and there are only so many things we can talk about before we repeat it all, especially if new artists join. What we need is another Art Challenge but we will have to wait at least another year for that. Hope teddy bear has had his cocoa Syd.

Oh dear Syd and Alan, I didn't think it was as bad as that!! I was eating my toast this morning and realised that another competition is exactly what you don't want Syd - sorry about that. I think someone else has also put forward the idea of a challenge between those interested Triduana. The sad fact is that we can't please everyone. So Syd and Alan, a challenge for you - put up a list of suggestions and let us see what we can do.
