I often wonder why people who post on the gallery with enhanced photographs either their own or taken from the net e g celebrity portraits , then pass them off as their own work think they are kidding . It’s not a learning or creative process it’s a bit like painting by numbers which really is for little kids who do it for fun.
Digital creating as discussed on earlier threads a completly different ball game .. I just don’t see the necessity of trying to fool people or themselves .
What’s the point ?

There isn't any point Sylvia, and there are more and more appearing on the gallery (yes, celeb portraits in the main). It's quite obvious to me how they were produced, but it always brings a smile to my face when I read a comment such as 'How wonderful, it's just like a photograph'. That's because it IS a photograph you bloody idiot!

The problem is with digital images is that we don't know what we are looking at half the time. There are some very talented digital painters who post in the gallery, but there are also some photo manipulators. I think that there is one of each type, who post regularly.
As for copies of celebs - theft of intellectual property or copyright is theft, whether you get caught or not.

A perfect likeness is just about as far away from art and more like photography as to raise the "why bother?" question. . Unless the work is your own, where's the satisfaction? I can see the skill in digital work, but I'm totally with Sylvia, it has no place amongst the paint-smeared havoc that is paintbrush land. Enhancing photographs is not the way to go except in an ego-building fool-yourself exercise. Begone ye digies....😆

I know you are talking about digitally enhanced photos but also running through this thread once again is painting from photos. Shoot me now if you wish but how on earth can you say that painting from a photo and interpreting it in a photo-realistic way is not art? I'd really like to see some of you having the skill to do that, all I seem to see from most of you are impressionistic painting, nothing very detailed at all. I like detail.

Golly I haven't seen those film star photo painting things yet - must have a nosey and have a look!! There is an awful lot of spam on here tonight such that I struggled to find any decent posts to read and join in on. Not fun, particularly for the admin people.
On another matter, I've just been squashed down to size on a FB art page - someone was asking advice and I replied with my opinion in a very nice way, non bossy, only to be completely shot down and told that 'with 25 years of experience' she was right and I was wrong!! I don't think anyone is ever wrong, or any way is particularly right. I think one can take what one wants and work it in the way they want, and as long as they are happy with the result, then does it really matter?
Anyway, just a thought.

Georgina, just want to send you a message of support. You obviously tried to be helpful by responding to a request for advice, and doing it in a very nice way. There was absolutely no reason to shoot you down, (I am assuming it was the person who asked for advice in the first place), the appropriate response would have been to thank you, whether she agreed or not. Then perhaps have further explored where you and she differed if she wanted to.
