Stan and Alan, your portraits look pretty good to me!
Yes, I think the portraits are looking pretty damn good … Stan and Alan you should be pleased with yourselves.
Still coming fast and thick, well done everyone.  Alan, that's a good drawing...maybe you should try more.  Not selfies...that's too much hard work...but something that takes your fancy.  Yours looks a good likeness, Stan.
Alan, I have to say, that is brilliant! If this is one of your first attempts at a selfie, it's great. It's hard doing something you're not easy with ( me, I love doing portraits, even if I'm not always happy with them) but you've produced something very good. Not a face person? Not true.😊 Stan, you got one in the bag! Once you've done one it's all upwards! I bet you learned a lot in the process. Well done for going out of your comfort zone - it's one of the hardest things . It's definitely you.

Everyone, go see Darren Lewis's 'In the studio - mirror image' just posted.  you might miss it because at first glance it looks like a photo of him standing by his latest painting but it's much more than that!
Ewan McClure, self portrait , you tube. Watch it, it's amazing.I'm going to have a go at this method myself. Met him in Kirkcudbright, where he's artist in residence at Edward Hornell's house. Lovely bloke, brilliant artist.

Thank you for all your comments about my self portrait, I have attempted some portraits before, I have the dads army gang and Rumpole in pastels in my gallery.
Heather, thanks for highlighting Darren Lewis's portrait - it is intimidatingly good!  and also Marjorie for highlighting the Ewan McClure video - amazing!   Have been at Hornel's House in Kirkcudbright a couple of times - wonderful gardens.

Stan, if you like it the way it is, and it certainly looks good to me, I would stop there and do another one!    I find doing self-portraits difficult (I use a mirror usually) but the model isn't going to go away half way through the pose!
If you do another one, you'll find that most of the "problems" have been thought through the first time. Sometimes it takes a good few goes to get to grips with the tricky bits. I don't think I've cracked it with a selfie yet, there's always something not quite right.

I looked up the Darren post and Ewan McClure, both amazing, but the Ewan video especially ridiculously clever!
Tessa and Alan you both made me laugh with your comments about someone else's face appearing, but seriously they are both good, its difficult trying to capture a good likeness of yourself!! Stan that's a brilliant painting, very well done, great work going on I think our daily sketching is definitely paying off!!
